Welcome to Intro to Sew-ciology — Level 1

Discover the wonderful world of sewing in our new 6-week Intro to Sew-ciology Level 1 course!

Designed for beginners, this small-group class is the perfect place to learn the fundamentals of sewing in a relaxed, supportive environment. You’ll develop the skills and confidence needed to safely operate a sewing machine while practicing hand-eye coordination, patience, and precision.

This class is for adults & Youth (15+).

Sewing Machine Basics

Begin your sewing journey by learning how to safely thread and operate a sewing machine. You’ll also be introduced to different types of sewing machine needles and learn which needles are best suited for different sewing projects and fabrics.

Project 1: Signature Adjustable Butcher-Style Apron

Your first sewing project will be our Signature Adjustable (Butcher-Style) Apron.
As you create your apron, you’ll learn essential sewing techniques, including:

* Understanding fabric "grain lines"
* Tracing and cutting sewing patterns
* Using tracing and cutting tools
* Proper pinning and ironing techniques
* How to hem a project
* Sewing curves
* Building confidence with your sewing machine

This hands-on project will introduce you to the essential skills every beginner sewist needs.

Project 2: Small Zippered Pouch

Next, you’ll learn how to sew a zipper while creating a Small Zippered Pouch.

You’ll learn about the anatomy of a zipper and how to work with both a basic zipper presser foot and a dress-style zipper. This project will help you build on the machine skills you developed while creating your apron.

Important Information

Come learn in a relaxed and welcoming studio environment where everything you need to sew is provided. Our classroom is fully equipped with sewing machines, tools, and notions needed to complete your projects.

With only 6 students per class, you’ll have plenty of opportunity for hands-on instruction and one-on-one time with your instructor.

For your convenience, the studio has a water cooler and washroom. Please note that no food or drinks are permitted in the classroom.

Please bring slippers or indoor shoes to wear in the classroom.
