This course runs every in 8 week intervals. 

An introduction into the world of sewing, this small group class setting is perfect to learn the basics of how to operate a sewing machine safely. Practicing eye-hand coordination, operating a sewing machine & patience.   

  • Class length: 8 x 1.5hr
  • This class is for Ages 17+

COURSE OUTLINE

Class #1: 

    • Body Measurements  (How to)
    • Common Alterations to commercial patterns 

    Class #2: 

      • Pockets! (different kind of pockets)
      • How to add pockets to ready made clothes

      Class #3: 

        • How to use Interfacings
        • When & Why we use interfacings
        • Project: Applique with Heat n' Bond

        Class #4: 

        • Zippers (Refresh)
        • Project: Lapped Zipper & Mini Lined Zipper Bag

        Class #5:  

        • Hand sewing Refresh
        • Threading needles
        • Tying Knots
        • Different Stitching Techniques (Running, Ladder, Cross, Blanket & Whip Stitch)
        • Hand sewing project (Pin-cushion: for future use) 

        Class #6: 

        • Introduction to Knits

        Class #7 & 8 

           Project: T-shirt/or Sweater

        • Learning the importance of Pre-washing fabrics  
        • Laying out pattern pieces on fabrics 
        • Cutting out pattern 
        • Learning to sew a garment 
        • Importance of Directional Sewing 

         Cost: $275.00 plus tax

        Class size: 6-8 students

        Learn in a relaxed environment where all things necessary to sew are in studio. The classroom is fully equipped with sewing machines and all the tools and notions you need to complete your project.
        Small classes mean more time with your instructor.There is a watercooler and washroom for your convenience. No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom.
        Please bring slippers or indoor shoes for the classroom.
